For this assignment, I was challenged to design a dust jacket for a well-known novel of my choice — with one key constraint: the cover title had to be produced photographically, and the typography had to play an integral, innovative role. I chose Frankenstein and used my background in photography, lighting, and projection to craft a haunting, minimalist image that captures the eerie, psychological tension of the story.
Using long exposure techniques, dramatic lighting, and myself as the model, I created a blurred portrait of Victor Frankenstein in motion, his shadow — the Monster — always present at his side. The blurred figure and looming silhouette reflect the novel’s core ambiguity: Who is the true monster? The design invites viewers to sit with that question.
