Inspired by Giorgia Lupi’s human-centered approach to data visualization, this warm-up assignment invited us to observe and document a small aspect of daily life while living abroad in Florence. Over several weeks, we tracked personal data to better understand our habits, interactions, or surroundings, then translated that data into a thoughtful, design-driven visualization.
I chose to focus on language—specifically, my daily attempts to practice Italian with locals—as a way to both connect more deeply with the culture and explore the emotional and narrative potential of data. As the weeks progressed, I noticed my confidence and fluency steadily improving, and the data became a quiet record of both linguistic growth and meaningful human connection.
