The Berg
Each design student in my undergraduate program is given their own desk on the top floor of Steinberg Hall, an art building where we’ve formed a tight-knit, collaborative community. It’s a space full of laughter, late nights, and creativity — and I wanted to find a way to document the memories, stories, and artwork that came out of it.
I knew I didn’t want this project to live on email or social media. I believe in the power of print to communicate in a more meaningful, tactile way. So I created The Berg — a print publication that’s entirely produced on receipt paper. This choice to print on this type of paper was both practical and intentional. I needed a medium that was affordable, scalable, and easy to distribute. But more importantly, I wanted the reading experience to be simple and accessible — short-form articles that busy art students could actually make time for. The Berg is designed to be picked up in passing, read between classes, and shared among friends — no noise, just thoughtful stories in a format that respects your time.
Each week, I print The Berg on receipt paper and hand-deliver a copy to all 100 desks in our studio. It’s a small but intentional ritual — one that helps maintain a sense of connection and makes sure everyone has access, no matter how busy their week is.
